Cheaper phone rates for Pinoys in Malaysia

Filipinos in Malaysia can now enjoy the benefits of cheaper phone rates to their loved ones in the Philippines. This after the Ayala-owned Globe Telecom, Inc. entered into a joint venture with Malaysia’s telecommunications service provider Maxis. Both Globe and Maxis are members of the Bridge Mobile Alliance, the biggest alliance of telecommunications companies in the Asia-Pacific. “We are proud to partner with Maxis and we are excited to offer this new SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) for the Filipinos in Malaysia," said Ferdinand M. dela Cruz, head of Globe’s Wireless Consumer Business unit. “Globe continues to expand its reach and create special packages that will meet the unique needs of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)," he added. The partnership involved co-branding of a special SIM called Hotlink-Kababayan Prepaid SIM, the first and only Pinoy SIM in Malaysia. Its users will enjoy special International Direct Dialing (IDD) rates when calling Globe and Touch Mobile ™ subscribers through IDD code 132. By using the special Hotline-Kababayan Prepaid SIM, voice calls will be at 0.50 Malaysian ringgit per minute, or equivalent to P6.85/min, which is at least 36 percent cheaper than what other wireless service providers in Malaysia offer. For short messaging system (SMS) or text messages, each message sent will be charged 0.15 Malaysian ringgit, equivalent to P2.05/min, which is 25 percent less than the rates of other cellular phone operators in Malaysia. “We provide overseas Filipinos with convenient and relevant mobile services that will help enrich their lives," said Andrew Buay, Globe’s chief operating advisor. “We strive to give them the most affordable rates and to offer the best international reloading services so they are constantly connected to their loved ones in the Philippines. Globe is committed to provide the OFWs with the world-widest coverage," Buay asserted. - GMANews.TV
