PhilJobnet listing for new grads begins

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Tuesday that registration has begun for 2007 graduates in the PhilJobnet, opening a window for employers around the world to know the various skills and courses of young Filipinos. PhilJobnet is the official website for Philippine jobs, the country's biggest jobs search system. It is able to access thousands of job vacancies along with employers in need of professionals and workers with technical and vocational skills. In the first week of March, the DOLE and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the posting of names of fresh college graduates on Phil-JobNet. At the signing, labor secretary Arturo Brion said, “This [MOA] is part of our efforts to hit the No. 1 slot in the world skills registry, matching available skills with opportunities to bring down unemployment." In Tuesday’s official opening for the registration of this year’s graduates, Brion said that the CHED has already asked its regional offices and covered higher education institutions (HEIs) to operationalize the MOA. Employers all over the world can access the skills registry posting on Phil-JobNet. The MOA signing is desirable to avoid job-skills mismatch among our professionals, Brion said. New graduates may register with the PhilJobnet through the Internet facilities in their schools or at the nearest CHED and DOLE regional office. He added that schools without Internet facilities will be provided offline version of the PhilJobnet. Data will then be sent through e-mail to the DOLE regional offices that assist the CHED and colleges and universities in the use and maintenance of the PhilJobnet system. Some 500,000 students from 1,647 colleges and universities in the country will graduate and enter the labor force this year. –GMAnews.TV
