Darlene, 1,200-vehicle convoy to greet Manny in GenSan

A political opponent and a 1,200-vehicle convoy will lead the welcome for Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao when he goes home to General Santos City on Wednesday. But with the lavish preparations by his home city, Pacquiao will be faced with a dilemma on which float to ride – that of his supporters or that of the city government. Radio dzBB reported Tuesday morning that Rep. Darlene Custodio, whom Pacquiao will face for the congressional race on May 14, will lead the personalities welcoming him at General Santos. Custodio, a member of the House minority and running under the Nationalist People's Coalition party, earlier said that while she is happy for Pacquiao's win Sunday, politics will be a "totally different arena." She said she is confident she has enough support from residents of General Santos City for her re-election bid. On the other hand, the city government under mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. and the city government had prepared a float for Pacquiao to ride during a victory motorcade there. But Pacquiao's supporters, the "People's Champ Movement," also prepared their own float, to be escorted by 1,000 motorcycles, 200 jeeps and 20 large vehicles. Meanwhile, in Manila, the city government has deployed traffic enforcers and policemen along the route to be taken by the victory motorcade for Pacquiao. Pacquiao is considered an adopted son of Manila. - GMANews.TV
