Police have identity of Campbell killing suspect

(Update) The Philippine National Police has identified a suspect in the killing of US Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell, radio station dzBB reported Friday. The same report said members of the PNP are now awaiting the issuance of the warrant of arrest against the suspected killer. But authorities refused to disclose the identity of the suspect pending his arrest. PNP chief Director General Oscar Calderon said investigators found a piece of wood stained with blood, believed to be used by the suspect against Campbell, in a grassy area in Batad village, Banaue town in Ifugao province. Campbell's body was found Wednesday, or 10 days after she was last seen. The body was brought to Manila on Thursday and taken to the Loyola Memorial Chapels in Guadalupe, Makati City for refrigeration purposes. A GMA Flash Report Friday said the remains of Campbell will undergo the autopsy Saturday when US pathologists are expected to arrive from Japan. Police Director Geary Barias, head of PNP Investigation and Detective Management office, said they are still awaiting for the arrival of US forensic pathologists. The three to four-man team will serve as observer and representative of the US Embassy in the autopsy. In another development, US Ambassador Kristie Kenney said they will be holding a private memorial service for Campbell. The remains of slain US Peace Corps volunteer will be immediately flown to American after the autopsy. - GMANews.TV
