Abra town mayoralty bet survives ambush


An Abra town mayoralty bet survived an ambush Tuesday morning near Bangued. Police identified the intended ambush victim as 'Boyet' Castillo. He is running for the mayoralty post of Langiden town, Abra. Police said that a group of still unidentified armed men ambushed the convoy of Castillo at around 3:45 early Tuesday morning at Sitio Bakir, Barangay San Antonio, Bangued while the candidate’s jeep and van convoy were going home to his Langiden. Police recovered three slugs from the jeep’s windshield while the van was not hit. Castillo and his leaders reported the incident to the police and the 1601st Provincial Mobile Group of the PNP and Bangued police immediately responded to the shooting incident. Abra was earlier placed under COMELEC control after a series of killings among supporters and politicians in the hinterland province. - GMANews.TV
