Suspect in Campbell slay case surrenders to Ifugao police

More than a week after the police started scouring the northern Luzon mountains for him, the 25-year-old woodcarver suspected of killing US Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell surrendered Friday to the Ifugao police. Radio station dzBB said "lone" suspect Juan Duntugan turned himself over to Cordillera authorities at around 3:20 p.m. Friday. He was accompanied by his mother, Jane. Superintendent Joseph Adnol, spokesman for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) police, said Duntugan is currently undergoing tactical interrogation. Police said three eyewitnesses – all minors – saw Duntugan flee the shallow grave where Campbell was buried in Batad village in Banaue, Ifugao. Duntugan owned the refreshments store in Batad where Campbell was seen buying a soft drink. Sought for comment, National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao said he has yet to receive information on Duntugan's surrender. - GMANews.TV
