SunStar: Apayao mayoral bet faces DQ over residency issue

The campaign period may have started to wind down, but it may be all over for a mayoralty bet in Apayao province, who faces disqualification because of a residency issue. Sun Star Baguio reported Sunday that mayoralty bet Donato Legaspi now faces a disqualification suit lodged by re-electionist mayor Reynald Talimbatog. It said Talimbatog filed the disqualification case before the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office. Talimbatog claimed in his petition that Legaspi “is not worthy of running for mayor in Kabugao as he is not a registered voter in the town." He cited as basis a certification from the Comelec municipal office dated March 30, that Legaspi is not a registered voter in the town. Comelec Regional Director Armando Velasco said the case would be resolved before the May 14 elections. Aside from Legaspi, at least four other candidates in the town of Tineg, Abra presently face disqualification but records of the cases have yet to be forwarded to the Comelec office. - GMANews.TV
