Mothers meet: Burgos mom visits Cory Aquino

The mother of missing activist Jonas Burgos on Thursday gave flowers to former President Corazon Aquino as an early Mother's Day treat, thanking the latter for demanding an immediate search for her son. GMA News' Flash Report said Edith Burgos gave flowers to Aquino as a sign of gratitude. The two mothers met at Aquino's home in Times Street, Quezon City. Edith was accompanied by members of Desaparecidos, which assists families whose kin have fallen victim to involuntary or forced disappearances. Aquino earlier called upon the government to expedite the search for Jonas, son of the late crusading journalist Jose "Joe" Burgos. "I appeal to the highest authorities of the land to send the clear signal to the field, that Jonas Burgos must be surfaced immediately by whoever is holding him, and that no harm must come to him," Aquino then said. A day after issuing the statement, Aquino learned that her private telephone line was wiretapped. GMA News added that Edith will visit other prominent mothers to commemorate Mother's Day. Last April 28, Jonas was forcibly taken by four men and a woman from a restaurant inside a Quezon City mall. Security guards said the group introduced themselves as police officers. Jonas is an agriculturist who has been teaching farmers in Bulacan learn organic and environment-friendly farming practices. He tends to the family's one-hectare farm. The Burgos family on Wednesday said members of the Army's 56th Infantry Batallion should be considered "prime suspects" in the abduction. It was earlier reported that the plate number of the vehicle used in Jonas' abduction was the same car plate – TAB 194 – earlier attached to a vehicle parked at the 56th IB's camp in Norzagaray, Bulacan. Military chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr relayed to Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita that the car plate was stolen from a military impounding area in Bulacan. - GMANews.TV
