Bantayan mayoral bet’s son, 8 others face gun ban raps

The son of a mayoral candidate in Bantayan Island, Cebu and eight of his friends will be facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and violation of the election gun ban after police caught them carrying a gun and ammunitions in their vehicle on Sunday.

Radio dzBB reported that at about 7:15 p.m., policemen conducted a checkpoint at a village in Sta. Fe town and stopped a black Ford Explorer ( plate number ROL 777) boarded by Dindo Zaspa and his friends.

The same report said the police found a .45-caliber pistol and one magazine containing six live ammunitions underneath the car’s seat, stuck in a leather hole.

Police Inspector Jose Rovic Villarin was quoted by dzBB as saying that the gun and ammos were without permit.

He said that even when the same had licenses, Zaspa and his friends would still not be able to evade the law, because the island was recently placed under the control of the Commission on Elections, thus, carrying of all firearms in the area was banned.

Dindo is the son of Sta. Fe mayoral bet Domingo Zaspa who is now facing murder charges after police implicated him in the killing of his rival Rogelio Ilustrisimo Sr.

DzBB said that aside from Dindo, those to be charged by the police are: Leodigario Basiensila, Jedizel Tipoltipol, Rico Pleños, Dixie Capaciete, Jerson Dabo, Rosito Ariesgado Jr, Crisanto Pasiño and Ryan Batobalunod. - GMANews.TV
