Body recovered in Bataan not that of Jonas - PNP

Police on Tuesday led the family of missing Joseph "Jonas" Burgos to a recovered dead body in Bataan only to find out it was not that of the agriculture educator. Chief Superintendent Geary Barias told reporters Wednesday in Camp Crame that a police team invited Edith Burgos, the mother of Jonas, to Abucay town to check on a cadaver recovered two days after Burgos was abducted on April 28 in Quezon City. "The report says that the body resembled Burgos," Barias said, even as he admitted that it was already in an advanced state of decomposition. "But it turned out, hindi," he quickly added. Aside from the identification of Edith, Barias said the discrepancy was also confirmed by a dental examination on the cadaver. Asked if police has indication that Burgos is still alive, Barias said: "I could not forward any guess on that." Burgos, who provides trainings on agricultural technology to members of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas in the countryside, was abducted together with two other companions by unidentified armed men from a mall in Quezon City. The Philippine Army had earlier suspended a battalion commander whose unit was linked to the incident when the plate number used in the abduction was traced to one of its impounded vehicles. - GMANews.TV
