Broadcaster ‘Kuya Cesar’ passes away at 69


Two days after marking his 69th birthday, veteran radio broadcaster-comedian Cesar “Kuya Cesar" Nucum succumbed to cardiac arrest Thursday night. Nucum, a broadcaster for ABS-CBN’s dzMM radio, had hailed a taxi near his house in Quezon City past 7 p.m. Thursday and asked to be brought to a hospital because of chest pains. A story on the ABS-CBN news website (www.abs-cbnnews.com) said doctors at the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City stopped resuscitating him at 9:45 p.m. It said Nucum, known for his slow-paced commentaries, hosted the talk show “Dear Kuya Cesar" and “Ikaw sa Likod ng mga Awit," which featured songs from the 1950s and 1960s. The website “Famous Kapampangans" (www.geocities.com/Athens/Academy/4059/famous4.htm) described Nucum as an “adviser of lonely heart people." It noted he hailed from Pansinao, Candaba, Pampanga Nucum joined ABS-CBN before the Martial Law era, and rejoined it after the network reopened following the EDSA-1 revolution in 1986. He also appeared in local movies such as “Bala at Lipstick" in 1994, “Gagay: Prinsesa ng Brownout" in 1993, and “Tora-Tora, Bang Bang Bang" in 1990. - GMANews.TV
