With 1M votes left, battle seen at 11th to 14th spots


The National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) said Wednesday that with only a million votes left to tally, the battle for the senatorial election has apparently narrowed down from 11th to 14th spot. Namfrel chairman Edward Go told reporters that candidates occupying the 11th down to 14th spot should take a deep breath because it could be a close fight. In the Namfrel and the Commission on Elections tally, Antonio Trillanes is in 11th place and behind him are Aquilino “Koko" Pimentel III in 12th spot, Miguel Zubiri in 13th place and Ralph Recto in 14th slot. Earlier, Team Unity candidate Mike Defensor has already accepted his defeat in the May 14 senatorial race. Defensor ranked 15th both in Namfrel and Comelec tally. Most of the votes would come from Mindanao region particularly in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) comprise of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Shariff Kabunsuan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. Other provinces are Tarlac, Bohol, Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Pasig City, Mandaluyong and Caloocan. Of the 6,920 precincts in ARMM, Namfrel has able to tabulate 40.77 percent of more than 60 percent yet to be counted. Tarlac has 2,934 precincts but Namfrel tabulated just 896 precincts or 30.54 percent. Of the 3,263 precincts of Bohol, Namfrel just counted 1,822 precincts or 55.84 percents. While in Surigao del Sur, Namfrel counted 50.19 percent of 1,327 precincts of Surigao del Norte and 57 percent of 1,557 precincts in Surigao del Sur. Caloocan has 2,986 precincts but Namfrel just counted so far 57.37 percent. In Mandaluyong, Namfrel counted 18.54 percent out of 944 precincts. While Camiguin has 303 total precincts but Namfrel just tabulated 51.16 percent. As of Tuesday 11:03 p.m., Namfrel tabulated 180,676 of the 224,748 total precincts or equivalent to 80.39 percent. - GMANews.TV
