Prosecution won’t nix Beltran's release bid

Government prosecutors said Saturday they will not pose any objection to the immediate release of Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran from “hospital arrest." Senior state prosecutor Emmanuel Velasco said they will even agree to Beltran’s immediate release, instead of waiting for Monday. “Palayain na rin, sa aking personal na pananaw (Personally I would recommend that he be freed immediately)," Velasco said in an interview on dzRH radio. But Velasco contested the Supreme Court’s chiding the justice department and government prosecutors for meddling in politics in handling Beltran’s case. He said the government prosecutors handling the case followed the proper court procedures, and that there was nothing personal in pursuing the case against Beltran. “Ginawa namin ang trabaho namin ... pero kung ganyan nagsalita ang Korte Suprema tingin ko dapat irespeto iyan. Sa amin, ang proseso sinunod namin (We just did our job. If the high court had spoken, we must respect it. But we maintain we followed the processes)," he said. - GMANews.TV
