Man runs amuck, kills 8, hurts 19 in Calbayog City

Eight people, including children, died, while 19 others suffered injuries when a man ran amuck and stabbed people in Calbayog City, Samar, radio dzBB reported on Saturday. Police Chief Inspector Aniceto Tigbubulan told dzBB that at about 2 a.m., Saturday, Danny Duadez, 39, carrying a short machete or sundang, entered two houses at the remote village of Gadgaran, and hacked to death 8 people, including children, women and elderly individuals while they were asleep. He said Duadez then went to a nearby wake and continued his hacking spree, injuring at least 19 people. Tigbubulan said most of the victims were Duadez's relatives. He said the attacker, believed to be suffering from a mental illness, has long been a trouble-maker in the area and reportedly killed his own brother in Manila. He said Duadez was put behind bars after he surrendered to an individual named Fortunato. A case is being prepared against the suspect, Tigbubulan said. - GMANews.TV
