'Dismayed' DoJ to block SC rule on 'Batasan 6'

The executive branch will block the decision of the Supreme Court that dismissed on Friday the rebellion case against six leftist party-list lawmakers, radio dzBB reported on Saturday. The report quoted Solicitor General Agnes Devanadera as saying that the Department of Justice (DoJ), through her office, will file an appeal urging the High Court to reconsider its decision that favored representatives Satur Ocampo, Teodoro Casiño and Joel Virador of Bayan Muna, Crispin Beltran and Rafael Mariano of Anak Pawis and Liza Maza of Gabriela. The Supreme Court chided the DoJ for meddling in and trivializing the judicial process despite the absence of evidence that would prove that the lawmakers were engaged in rebellion. Devanadera reportedly said the government decided to file an appeal to the High Court to bring back the stability of the justice system. DzBB also quoted the solicitor general as saying that the DoJ was "dismayed and saddened" with the decision of the Supreme Court's Second Division because it would have a negative impact on the country's judicial system. - GMANews.TV
