Migz refuses to concede; Koko says he's the winner

Team Unity senatorial candidate Juan Miguel Zubiri refused conceding to Genuine Opposition's Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, his rival in the 12th winning slot, the day when the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to announce 10 to 11 senatorial winners in the May 14 midterm polls. Zubiri told radio dzBB on Wednesday that he still has a "fighting chance" because there are some 1.2 million votes left that have not yet been counted by the Comelec from Surigao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Basilan. "Medyo malapit masyado...di puwedeng basta-basta mag-concede, (The difference of my votes to that of Pimentel is slim, I cannot just concede easily)" Zubiri told dzBB. Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Pimentel told dzBB that he has a "comfortable lead" over Zubiri. He estimated that his lead over Zubiri in the final counting would be 130,000 to 140,000. "Sa tingin ko ( I think) I have a comfortable lead at pinag-aralan ko na rin po ang numero at pinag-aralan ko na rin ang batas sa (and I am also studying the numbers and the law in) canvassing at sa tingin ko po, tapos na po...tapos na (and I think, it's finished), I will be the 12th winning senator," said Pimentel. Zubiri currently on the 13th slot, however, said he is still confident of victory, because he believes that remaining provinces in Mindanao will deliver him votes. He said that based on the survey conducted by Pulse Asia before the May polls, he was number two in Mindanao. He also denied that he is cheating. "Di ko kailangang mandaya sa Mindanao para manalo (I don't need to cheat to win in Mindanao)." He said that if Pimentel wins, "I will shake his hand." But if he wins, he also expects Pimentel to support him because they are both from Mindanao. - GMANews.TV
