Activist: Captors forced me to become gov't spy

Gilbert Rey Cardiño, the regional coordinator of the leftist party-list group Bayan Muna in Southern Mindanao broke his silence on Tuesday, saying his abductors forced him to become a government mole. "They forced me to sign a document about my work to them as an asset. They will hurt me, my wife and kid should I fail them. They expect me to issue a statement to the media and I know they are closely monitoring my statement if I'm abiding in our agreement," Cardiño said in Tuesday’s press conference in Koronal City’s Protect Center. He added: That's the reason why I (was) hesitant before to talk to the media," Kidnappers released the 27-year-old Cardiño Friday morning, two days after his daylight abduction in Koronadal City. Cardiño was found by negotiators at New Pangasinan village in the same city at about 11 a.m. Police Director Geary Barias, director for Investigation and Detective Management and concurrent commander of Task Force Usig, earlier said no ransom was paid for Cardiño's release. Cardiño said he managed to get home by himself and later phoned South Cotabato Governor Daisy Fuentes who herself personally fetched Cardeño from his house and took him to a hospital, where he was diagnosed as suffering from trauma. "They let me list down the names and background of all officers of progressive groups in South Cotabato and those connected with them. They also showed me photographs of progressive groups' members. Majority are based in General Santos City and only three personalities from here," Cardiño said. "The head of the Tagalog-speaking abductors, known as "Bosing", told me that if they will give me second life, there will be no third life. He gave his mobile number so I can communicate to him and report after a month as asset," he added. - GMANews.TV
