Jonas Burgos' mom attends CHR probe

The mother of abducted agriculturist Jonas Joseph Burgos arrived at the hearing of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Friday morning on her son's disappearance, dzMM radio reported. Editha took the witness stand during the first session on Friday morning, while Major Gen. Delfin Bangit, chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (Isafp), is set to take the witness stand in the afternoon. The Isafp chief, in a letter to CHR Commissioner Dominador Calamba last June 7, has expressed his willingness to attend this time, after successively snubbing previous hearings set by the agency. Jonas, son of press freedom icon Jose "Joe" Burgos, was abducted last April at a restaurant inside a Quezon City mall. He was teaching organic farming methods to land tillers in San Miguel, Bulacan prior to his abduction. Four military officials and enlisted personnel were dragged to the mess after the license plate of the vehicle used in the abduction was traced to the military. The license plate was originally that of a vehicle seized by the 56th Infantry Batallion last year for illegal logging operations in Bulacan. The four military men are former 56th Infantry Battalion chief Lieutenant Noel Clement, his successor Lieutenant Col. Melquiades Feliciano, Private First Class Jose Villena and Corporal Castro Bugallon. - GMANews.TV
