Jose Velarde account

The controversial "Jose Velarde" bank account worth P3,233,104,173.17 makes up the bulk of the ill-gotten wealth which former President Estrada is accused of amassing.

The amount represents kickbacks allegedly received by Estrada during his brief stint as Chief Executive and deposited into an Equitable-PCI bank account.

In his testimony before the Sandiganbayan last year, Estrada admitted that he signed bank documents as "Jose Velarde". However, he denied owning the bank account and insisted that it belonged to businessman Jaime Dichaves.
