(Update) 1 hurt, 40 shanties destroyed in QC fire

A fire broke out Tuesday night in a densely populated area along Banlat Road in Tandang, Sora Quezon City that hurt a still unidentified person and destroyed 40 houses, radio dzBB reported.

Quoting information from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), dzBB reported that the fire, which started past 8 p.m. and reached the fifth alarm, hit shanties near Greenville Subdivision.

Another dzBB report at about 10:22 p.m., said firemen have put the blaze under control. Major Romeo Rillo, fire marshal of the Quezon City BFP station 2, told dzBB in an interview that 40 houses, mostly made of light materials, were destroyed in the incident.

An unidentified individual also sustained minor injuries from the incident according to Rillo.

He said that based on initial investigation, the blaze started from an unattended candle in a house whose owner often held rosary prayer sessions . - GMANews.TV
