Mar Roxas disowns anti-Corona e-mail, seeks NBI probe

Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II disowned Wednesday an email accusing President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of corrupting the judiciary by appointing the wife of Supreme Court Justice Renato Corona to a juicy post. At the same time, Roxas asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to examine the email from roxas.mar@gmail.com, which his media relations officer Jennifer Bugarin branded as "fabricated." "Just for the record, Senator Mar did not send this e-mail. He does not own a gmail account. He has no knowledge about inner workings of Camp John Hay. More importantly, he holds Supreme Court Justice Rene Corona in high regard and thus would never have agreed to be part of unfair accusations against any member of his family," Bugarin said. Bugarin said Roxas also instructed his staff to contact Gmail administrators about the fake email. The fake email had the heading "Trouble brewing at Camp John Hay," and accused President Arroyo of "systematically corrupting the judiciary." It said Mrs Arroyo appointed Corona's wife as president and chairman of the Board of the John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC), a subsidiary of the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA). "President & Chairman Corona has been acting with total disregard for due process. Which is unthinkable, to say the least, being the wife of a lawyer. Is it because she feels untouchable, thanks to the protective cloak of the Supreme Court?" the email said. It also accused Mrs. Corona of ruling "by whims," appointing outsiders to sensitive positions without first seeking the necessary legal approval of the board. "Maybe Chairman Corona is paving the way for more irregularities under her watch? Watch out for more devious plots which she is concocting," the email said. - GMANews.TV
