Sun.Star: Davao gold rush site now a Hollywood film location

Mount Diwalwal, the scene of many gold-rush conflicts and tragedies in real life, may soon provide golden opportunities for starstruck residents in reel life. Sun.Star Davao reported Wednesday that a Hollywood film outfit decided to shoot on location at the Mt. Diwata village in Monkayo, Compostela Valley with big Hollywood stars in attendance. Village chief Franco Tito said actor Josh Hartnett, star of the war movie "Black Hawk Down", is due to arrive in Diwalwal once shooting starts on September 18. Tito said producers of the movie, titled "I Come With the Rain," are reportedly planning to hire some 200 local residents as extras for P300 each. He said the staff and crew of the movie outfit, Central Films Production, are already preparing the shooting location. Tito said the Hollywood staff arrived Tuesday in Diwalwal and started coordinating with local authorities for matters concerning their movie shoot, including security arrangements. He also said the Hollywood producer and director promised them that they will be shooting three to four more movies in Diwalwal including a movie about Diwalwal itself. "They said many foreigners want to come because they know the area to be peaceful," Tito said. For the moment, police and military personnel are providing security for the cast and crew of the said movie. Aside from Hartnett, Korean star Byung-hun Lee is also in the movie. In the movie, Harnett plays a private detective haunted by a past encounter with a serial killer, and heads for the Far East to search for a missing heir who has the power to heal with his touch. Directing the movie is Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung whose previous credits were "The Vertical Ray of the Sun," "The Scent of Green Papaya," and "Cyclo." - GMANews.TV
