Kris taps top designers for Noynoy's wardrobe

Popular television host and actress Kris Aquino is living up to her promise to take care of only brother Noynoy’s wardrobe, after he won a seat in last May’s senatorial race, and even had a good showing to land on the sixth place of the “Magic 12."

Kris has tasked famous couturiers JC Buendia and Randy Ortiz to design Barong Tagalog and suits for Senator Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III. Their mom, former President Corazon Aquino, and sisters Pinky, Ballsy and Viel have also been giving suggestions, if not impositions, on how their bachelor brother would get the “senatorial" look.

“I defer to my mom and my sisters. In this aspect (referring to wardrobe), I don’t have my opinion one way or the other," Noynoy concedes.

Interviewed a fortnight ago for the GMANews.TV’s Bantay Comelec Webcast when she attended Noynoy’s proclamation at the PICC, Kris said she would not meddle in her brother’s political activities, but would take care of his wardrobe.

In fact, Noynoy already wore JC Buendia’s Barong Tagalog in ecru (pale brown color, like unbleached linen) when he took his oath of office before Supreme Court Associate Justice Adolfo Azcuna on Wednesday, June 27. The barong was made of “piña suksok" from Aklan.

Buendia also delivered a two-button pinstriped gray coat that goes with blue and white window-pane dress shirt for Noynoy, according to Rochelle Ahorro, the senator-elect’s trusted chief of staff.

JC Buendia’s creations for Noynoy were described as “modern cut for slimmer fit."

Noynoy said he lost 5 lbs. in the course of the 90-day campaign period, going from one place to another, almost without sleep on most days.

His tummy has notably trimmed to 37 inches, Rochelle observed.

Noynoy himself said his campaign aides noticed that his pants had loosened shortly after the campaign period began in February. A keen observer, he said, would notice some of his campaign photos showing that his belt could no longer fittingly hold his pants.

When he was invited as guest in GMA-7’s PALABAN episode, Noynoy recalled that the pants he was wearing has become too loose that made him uncomfortable.

Randy Ortiz has yet to deliver his creations for Noynoy, but the senator-elect said he was asked to fit a charcoal gray coat. However, he said he felt uneasy fitting a pink and white dress shirt to go with the coat.

Kris had wanted to buy Noynoy a new pair of shoes to match his new wardrobe, but the 47-year-old senator got a defender in Ballsy to keep his Geox pairs that he himself bought in shops at Podium and SM North (The Block). “It has tiny holes in the inner and outer sole that provides ventilation to his feet without getting it wet when the rain pours.

“I used it during the campaign and it’s quite comfortable. It feel’s like you’re wearing rubber shoes," he said.

When it comes to his hair, his cousin Rapa Lopa takes charge. He took Noynoy to a salon at Crowne Plaza owned by Cherrie Reyes, the wife of basketball coach Chot Reyes.

“Okay ‘yun, may malasakit. Gusto ni Rapa panipisin pa, pero sabi ni Cherry tama na," Noynoy said. “They were communicating by sign language so I won’t hear them arguing, but I knew about it anyway later on."

“The first time I went there, I closed my eyes when they started cutting my hair. I didn’t know what style they wanted for me," he recalled, referring to a “look" that Campaigns & Grey had chosen for him.

He said his campaigners did a “study" on his looks, using the photoshop computer program that would show how different hairstyles would suit him.

“After ako nagupitan, na-shock ako," Noynoy said. His hair was kept short, with the sides somehow evenly thinned to reduce the effect of the thinning middle portion. - GMANews.TV
