Cops eye charges vs killer dad’s accomplice

After nailing the 22-year-old father who killed his own three-year-old daughter last June 30, police are now zeroing in on his accomplice to determine the motive behind the crime. Eastern Police District (EPD) head Chief Supt. Luizo Ticman said Saturday they are now concentrating on filing charges against Ruel Manalili for the murder of Kyna Noriega. “File-an natin ng kaso ang taong 'yan. Siya sa paniniwala natin meron silang usapan. Three minutes lang nakabalik si Jayson. Pinagplanuhan ito at pinasa (We’re preparing charges against the guy. We believe he and Jayson planned the entire thing)," Ticman said in an interview on dzRH radio. He was referring to Jayson Noriega, the 22-year-old jobless man who admitted to stabbing Kyna and throwing her in a creek last June 30. Initial investigation showed Noriega had pointed to Manalili as an accomplice. Manalili was arrested in Manila and is now detained. Police investigation showed Kyna was still alive when she was stabbed and thrown into the creek. Her body was recovered a few days later. But Ticman admitted they have yet to establish the motive for abducting Kyna, saying there are at least two theories behind the incident. “Sa speculation na ibebenta ang bata, wala tayong indication diyan. At isang binabanggit niya, estranged ang relationship niya sa live-in partner, humihingi siya sa isa sa dalawang anak (We still don’t have proof that he wanted to abduct then sell Kyna. And one theory is that he is estranged with his live-in girlfriend and wants to have custody of one of their two children)," he said. Meanwhile, Ticman said the use of the closed-circuit TV (CCTV) footage in nailing Noriega should be another argument backing up police request to establishments in eastern Metro Manila to install CCTV cameras inside and outside their buildings. He said this had been their advocacy for years, and that they had stressed this in meetings with bank managers and security officers. - GMANews.TV
