Lim lets MMDA traffic enforcers back into Manila

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has let Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcers back into the city about two years after they were banished by former mayor Jose "Lito" Atienza. Radio station dzEC reported Monday that MMDA personnel, although allowed by Lim to "help" manage traffic in the city, won't be allowed to put up concrete barriers and other obstacles. The new Manila mayor said the MMDA personnel will not be allowed to "interfere" with the city government's traffic management operations. It was not immediately clear how the city's own traffic enforcers under Lim will work with their MMDA counterparts. In 2005, Atienza banished the MMDA from Manila, which has its own traffic enforcers, over a row in traffic management. Atienza banned the MMDA from "interfering" with the city government's traffic management operations. Manila, which has a population of about 1.5 million, is one of 16 cities and a town that comprise Metro Manila. The MMDA is an agency that helps deliver services throughout the metropolis without impinging on the autonomy of local government units. -GMANews.TV
