Donaire, Condes make it to Ring Magazine ratings

Newly-crowned Filipino world boxing champs Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr (18 wins, 1 lost, 11 knockouts) and Florante "The Little Pacquiao" Condes (22-3-1 draw, 20) have made it to the prestigious Ring Magazine rankings. The rankings for July 9 and posted on the online edition of what is considered as the bible of boxing put Donaire Jr at second spot in the flyweight division (112 pounds) just behind Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (65-2, 34) of Thailand, who is rated No. 1. Pongsaklek has been in the rating for 330 consecutive weeks. Donaire Jr made it to the rankings when he knocked down erstwhile unbeaten Vic Sarchinyan (28-1, 22) in their International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight title fight last Saturday in Connecticut. Darchinyan fell to No. 5 in the rankings due to that defeat but still made it to the seeding for consecutive 195 weeks. Condes, on the other hand, is at third in the straw weight division (105 lbs). The Filipino pug made it to the ratings following his victory against Indonesian Muhammad Rachman also last Saturday in Indonesia via a split decision. Condes actually dislodged Rachman from the third spot and the latter is now at 5th. However, Rachman has been in the top 10 of the rankings for 167 weeks. Also in the division's ratings are Filipino pugs Rodel Mayol (23-1, 18) who was at 6th spot last week but is now at 7th while compatriot Eriberto Gejon (23-1-2, 13) fell from 7th to 8th. The Philippine's boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao (44-3-2) remains at the top of the junior lightweight division (130 pounds). He had been in the ratings for 108 weeks. Juan Manuel Marquez (47-3-1, 35) is behind Pacquiao while his Oct. 6 nemeses Marco Antonio Barrera (63-5, 42) is at third. Pacquiao is also at No. 2 in the pound-for-pound category behind welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather, who recently defeated Oscar de la Hoya. In the junior featherweight (122 lbs) division, Filipino Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista is at fifth spot. He has been included in the rankings for 10 consecutive weeks. Other Filipinos in the rankings are Z Gorrez (26-2-1, 14) who is at 10th spot in the junior bantamweight (115 lbs), and Filipino-American Brian Viloria (19-2, 12) who is eight in the junior flyweight (108 lbs) division. - GMANews.TV
