Lightning strike kills boy, 8, in Pangasinan

What started as a fun-filled pastime ended in tragedy for an eight-year-old boy after a lightning strike killed him in Pangasinan province Sunday afternoon. Radio dzRH reported Monday that the boy, Josh Garcia, 8, was riding at the back of a "kuliglig," a local motorcycle-based vehicle, when lightning struck him during a thunderstorm. The incident took place at about 3 p.m. at a field in Palayong village in San Carlos City in Pangasinan province. Injured in the lightning strike was the boy's uncle Rudy Malicdem, who was planting rice in the field when the lightning strike hit. Josh's father Lauro said the boy was playing with other boys in the field, throwing mud at each other and running through the field before the incident happened. While they were taking a ride home, lightning struck the boy and burned him in the left side of the body. The impact threw the boy to the ground. - GMANews.TV
