PNP chief: 'Friendster' cop disowns 'indecent' photo

It wasn't me. This was how Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Calderon summed up Monday his female aide's claim about her alleged indecent photo that appeared on the Internet. Calderon, in an interview on dzRH radio Monday, also appealed to the public to stop speculations on the incident while an internal investigation is still ongoing. "In fairness to her, she said she was not the one on the photo, and she would never do that," he said in Filipino. However, he said that if the investigation showed the policewoman indeed uploaded such photos on the Internet, she will suffer the consequences. "If she erred, then she will face the sanctions because she's not the only one involved. She would have dragged the entire organization into the mess," he said. Also, he admitted that the incident had affected the morale of the PNP, particularly the female police personnel. The still unnamed policewoman got in hot water after reports last week indicated that she uploaded a photo of herself wearing a red brassiere on popular social networking website, Friendster. Calderon said that in his initial talk with the policewoman, she denied resorting to such an act especially since she was single. He also noted that the uploaded photos appeared to have "malicious intent," and it was possible that the entire thing was a smear job. "I ordered an investigation but I don't want the issue to grow bigger. It's already reflecting on the morale of our personnel, especially on the women," he said. Radio reports last week said the woman has been assigned at Calderon's office in Camp Crame even before the controversy broke out. - GMANews.TV
