Jinggoy voted Senate president pro tempore; Kiko is majority leader


Following the assumption of Sen. Manuel Villar to the chamber's leadership, opposition Sen. Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada was elected Monday as the Senate president pro tempore of the 14th Congress. Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, who ran as an independent during the May 14 elections, was voted Senate majority leader. Villar won the Senate presidency with the support of both administration and opposition senators. He ran under the Genuine Opposition (GO) banner during the last polls. Jinggoy was nominated by GO bet Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. He was already sworn in as of posting time. His wife Precy, his mother former Sen. Luisa "Loi" Ejercito, as well as brothers Joseph Victor "JV" and Jude were present during the event. - GMANews.TV
