(2nd update) Fire hits CA main office

(Updated 1:48 p.m.) A fire broke out Thursday at the main building of the Court of Appeals along Maria Orosa Street in Ermita, Manila City. Radio station dzMM reported that the blaze reportedly broke out at the room of Associate Justice Edgardo Sundiam at the fourth floor. Senior Superintendent Pablito Cordeta, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) chief in Manila, was quoted as saying that the fifth alarm was raised at 12:41 p.m., while the fire was declared under control at 1:30 p.m. Thick smoke was initially seen coming out of the building. Strong winds were blowing, raising fears that the flames would become stronger. The incident came a day before military officials were ordered to produce abducted agriculturist Jonas Burgos before the appellate court's eighth division. The CA leadership already told its employees to go home. It said an announcement would be issued soon if the hearing on Burgos' case would push through as scheduled. - GMANews.TV
