Village chair stabbed dead in Cavite

Another village chairman was killed after having an altercation with a 17-year-old boy near an elementary school in Cavite City before dawn Tuesday. Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, Cavite police chief, said the victim, identified as Raul Bernal, was chairman of San Roque village in the same city. "It was 4:30 a.m. He (Bernal) was patrolling the area when he saw the suspect loafing around in front of the Manuel Roxas school," Posadas said in Filipino during an interview on dzBB radio. He said the teenager engaged Bernal in a verbal exchange, prompting the latter to slap him. "When the barangay (village) chairman slapped the suspect, the suspect lost control and stabbed him," Posadas said. The police subdued the suspect in a follow-up operation. The suspect, considered a minor, was still detained at police headquarters as of Tuesday morning, Posadas said. Last Monday, a village chief in Valenzuela City was gunned down by unidentified men in front of his house. The village official expired shortly after being rushed to the Sta. Clara de Montefalco Hospital along the North Diversion Road. - GMANews.TV
