Phivolcs researcher shot dead in Sorsogon town

SORSOGON - An employee of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology here was shot dead on Saturday by two unidentified men in Irosin town, police said Sunday. The victim, Orlando Guardacasa, was a science research specialist assigned at the Bulusan Volcano Observatory Station, Insp. Jose Alianza, deputy chief of the Irosin Municipal Police Office, said. Guardacasa was driving a motorcycle from the town's center going to Sangkayon village when the assailants riding tandem on a black Honda motorcycle open fired. The attack took place around 7:30 p.m. in Gulang-gulang village. The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Irosin District Hospital from a gunshot wound to the head. Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive and the identity of the killers. - GMANews.TV
