Alleged NPAs kill cop in Masbate


Suspected communist rebels ambushed and shot dead Sunday afternoon a policeman in Pio V. Corpuz town in Masbate province. Radio station dzRH reported that the New People's Army-Jose Rapsing command claimed responsibility for the killing of non-commissioned officer Jojo Eser, whom it accused of extorting from local fishermen. The NPA claimed that Eser also guided the military in anti-insurgency operations and set up an intelligence network against communist rebels in the province. Initial investigation showed that the ambush occurred at 1 p.m. in the town. The police recovered four .45-cal. and two 9-mm shells from the scene. Pio V. Corpuz is a fourth-class town with a population of 21,519 people in 4,769 households. - GMANews.TV
