A record of supertyphoons in RP

Typhoons Iliang, Loleng, Harurot, Paeng, Yoyong, Queenie and reming are considered by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) as "very strong, significant typhoons". All of them were strong enough for Signal #4 to be raised for some time as they passed the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

These typhoons have also been described in media reports as "supertyphoons".

Notes:

  • Signal #4 is raised when very strong winds of more than 185 kph is expected in at least 12 hours.
  • Pagasa only has three categories to describe the intensity of a tropical cyclone--tropical depression, tropical storm, and typhoon. "Supertyphoon" is just a description of a typhoon with maximum winds reaching more than 200 kph.
