Smart pumalag sa pagkakadawit sa ‘Hello Garci’ tapes

Umalma ang telecom giant na Smart Communications nitong Miyerkules sa pagkakadawit ng kumpanya sa "Hello Garci" scandal na muling iimbestigahan ng Senado batay sa karagdagang testimonya ni dating military intelligence agent Vidal Doble.

Bagama't "lumang istorya" na raw ang pahayag ni Doble tungkol sa partisipasyon umano ng telecom network sa ginawang paniniktik sa ilang personalidad noong 2004, sinabi ni Ramon Isberto, tagapagsalita ng Smart, na hindi pinahihintulutan ng kumpanya ang pakikinig sa pag-uusap ng subscribers.

Gayunpaman, inamin ni Isberto na hindi imposible kung may tauhan silang nakipagsabwatan sa militar para i-wiretap ang pag-uusap ng kanilang mga subscriber na target ng “Project: Lighthouse."

"It is possible [some company officials participated] as anything is possible. But actions like this are certainly violative of company policy," aniya.

Nanindigan si Isberto na hindi pinapahintulutan ng kumpanya ang sino man sa kanila ang makinig o magmonitor ng pag-uusap ng kanilang subscribers.

"There are internal processes that deal with situations like this. We conduct periodic investigations to ensure the quality and security of our operations," dagdag pa niya.

Hindi naman malinaw kung nagsagawa ng imbestigasyon ang Smart sa pagkakadawit nila sa “Hello Garci" at kung mayroon silang tauhan na naparusahan.

Sa panayam ng dzBB nitong Miyerkules, sinabi ni Doble na ang kanyang dating superiors na nasa likod ng "Project Lighthouse" operation – na sina Col. Paul Sumayo at Capt. Frederick Rebong – ang kumuha ng kontak sa telecom firm.

"Sa officers' level namin, si Captain Sumayo at si Colonel Rebong 'yung nakipag-coordinate sa service provider na Smart," kwento ni Doble.

"Definitely, (may kasabwat). Kasi hindi naman magiging posible 'yan kung wala kang contact dun sa loob (Smart) eh," dagdag pa niya.

Nang tanungin kung alam ng mga may-ari ng Smart ang operasyon, sinabi ni Doble na posibleng hindi ito alam ng pamunuan ng telecom firm.

Aniya, nagsagawa ng spotting ang mga ahente ng Isafp para pag-aralan ang kahinaan ng mga tao sa Smart bago ito kausapin at kumbinsihin na tumulong sa kanilang operasyon.

Kabilang sa mga tiniktikan umano ng Isafp ay ang namayapang si Fernando Poe Jr., na presidential candidate ng oposisyon noong 2004; dating Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano; aktor na si Rex Cortez; Magdalo leader na ngayon ay Sen.
