Minimum wage workers in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (Calabarzon) region will soon get additional P10 to P13 daily increase in their payslip following an order issued by the regional wage board on Tuesday.
In a press statement, the labor department said workers in Bacoor and Imus in Cavite, Biñan and San Pedro in Laguna, and Cainta and Taytay in Rizal will receive the highest increase of P13 in their daily wage.
"This will bring to P300 their daily pay from P287 under the previous wage order," the Department of Labor and Employment announced in its website.
Minimum daily wages of agricultural plantation and non-plantation workers in other parts of Calabarzon will now be P275 from P262 and P255 from P242, respectively.
But Wage Order IVA-12 will still undergo review by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC). It will take effect 15 days after publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
Labor Secretary Arturo Brion said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board IVA (RTWPB IVA) acted "motu propio" in issuing the new Wage Order No. IVA-12.
He said the new wage order provides for an increase in the daily pay of minimum wage workers in the Calabarzon even in the absence of any wage hike petition.
"The wage board found a need to increase the minimum wage levels to provide a relief in the cost of living of private sector workers without impairing the viability and competitiveness of business in Calabarzon," Brion said.
Brion said the Calabarzon wage board considered the region's gross domestic product and the employers' capacity to pay for a wage hike in line with efforts to sustain business viability to preserve and generate more jobs for the workers.
The new wage order also included a provision on productivity-based pay schemes that will allow additional pay or incentives to the workers through productivity improvement and gain sharing schemes.
"The provision will encourage workers to be more efficient and productive in their jobs," Brion said as he urged employers and labor groups in other regions to enter into collaborative undertakings aimed at increasing workers productivity. - GMANews.TV
