Lacson hits back at admin senators over 'Garci' probe

Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Friday brushed aside claims by administration senators who tried to downplay the "Hello, Garci" hearing at the Senate as a "waste of time." Lacson said the administration senators' attempts to downplay former intelligence agent Vidal Doble's testimonies were "expected" because they were taking the side of Malacañang. "It was very obvious they were trying to discredit Doble and they are trying to disrupt the proceedings (but) they did not succeed," he said. Lacson particularly scored Sen. Richard Gordon for accusing him of testifying for Doble, when Lacson explained to the Senate that the woman referred by the former Air Force sergeant as "Medy" was Remedios Poblador. Poblador was described by Lacson as an undersecretary at the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO). "Yan ang uncalled-for statement coming from Dick Gordon, na no senator can testify in a hearing like this. Kung meron akong ie-explain, that’s not testifying (That statement was uncalled for, coming from Gordon, that no senator can testify at a hearing like this. What I did was not testifying). I don’t know where he got that. He should be a lawyer worth his salt. If not, he can say that," Lacson said. On the other hand, Lacson said the other administration senators' claims that Friday's hearing was a waste of time should try not attending at all. "Kung inaakala nilang waste of time ito, huwag sila mag-attend. Bakit sila manggugulo (If they really think this is a waste of time, then they should not attend. But why are they intent on disrupting the proceeding)?" he said. "That’s their point of view. I cannot blame them because they are speaking for Malacañang," Lacson added. Another Palace ally, Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, had said that Doble’s testimony was not "double hearsay but Doble’s hearsay." Enrile cited Doble’s testimony before the Court of Appeals that the latter chose to stay at the Isafp (Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines) compound because he was afraid of Samuel Ong, former deputy director of the National Bureau of Investigation. To which, Doble said his statement before the CA was what his superiors wanted him to say at the time. - GMANews.TV
