Saguisag: Hindi pabor kay Erap ang hatol ng korte

Inaasahan ng punong abogado ni dating Pangulong Joseph Estrada na hindi pabor sa kanyang kliyente ang magiging hatol ng Sandiganbayan sa mga kasong plunder at perjury na ilalabas sa Miyerkules. Ayon kay Rene Saguisag nitong Biyernes, ang desisyon ng Sandiganbayan ay nakabase sa opinion ng Korte Suprema noong 2001 na hindi pumapabor sa acquittal ni Estrada. “The alignment of the stars is against us. Joseph Estrada’s fate was decided on January 20, 2001 when an overwhelming majority of the members of the Supreme Court went to EDSA to swear Mrs Arroyo into office," paliwanag ni Saguisag. “The entire system is against us, the Supreme Court, the administration, the special division. The Supreme Court has already declared that President Estrada is an evil person," dagdag nito. Sinabi ni Saguisag na hindi nila nakikitang kayang sabihin ng antigraft court sa Korte Suprema na nagkamali ito. “Still, we are hoping against hope that the justices will see this case the way we see it," ayon sa kanya. Tanging konsolasyon na lamang diumano ni Estrada ang suporta ng ng kanyang pamilya at ng masang Filipino. “Our only consolation is that every survey shows that the people believe in Erap’s innocence. That’s our vindication," iginiit ni Saguisag. Dismayado rin ang abogado ni Estrada sa pahayag ni Special Prosecutor Dennis Villa-Ignacio tungkol sa tsansa ng dating Pangulo na mapawalang-sala sa kasong plunder. "We in the prosecution team have very high confidence that we will get a conviction. Honestly, we have not contemplated that scenario of an acquittal," sinabi ni Villa-Ignacio. Nagbiro pa si Villa-Ignacio na baka barilin ang mga makakasalubong niya sakaling hindi ma-convict si Estrada bagama't malakas ang ebidensya laban sa kanya. “What we’d really like to hear from Villa-Ignacio is that after this case is concluded, he will start really working on (former Justice Secretary Hernando) Nani Perez. As we have said from the start, justice in this government is being administered with an evil eye and an uneven hand," ayon kay Saguisag. Inirekomenda ng Office of the Ombudsman na kasuhan si Perez sa kasong graft at “misconduct charges" base sa reklamong extortion laban sa kanya ni dating Manila Rep. Mark Jimenez. Inakusahan ni Estrada si Perez nang pagpilit sa kanyang umalis ng bansa matapos siyang patalsikin sa pwesto noong 2001. Gumawa diumano ng “special arrangements" si Perez upang masigurong hindi sumailalim sa paglilitis ang dating Pangulo. - Mark J. Ubalde, GMANews.TV
