Classes in 23 QC schools suspended on Erap verdict day


Classes in 23 public elementary and secondary schools in Quezon City will be suspended on Wednesday, the day Sandiganbayan rules on former President Joseph Estrada’s P4-billion plunder case, radio dzMM reported on Tuesday. The report said the Department of Education (DepEd) decided to suspend classes in the following elementary schools on September 12: Doña Juana, Batasan Hills, San Diego, Commonwealth, Culiat, New Era, Pasong Tamo, Holy Spirit, Payatas A, Payatas B, Payatas B-Annex, Payatas C, Lupang Pangako, and Bagong Silangan. The following high schools will also have no classes tomorrow according to DepEd: Commonwealth, Commonwealth High School Holy Spirit Annex, Batasan Hills National High School, Justice Cecilla Muñoz Palma High School, Manuel L. Quezon, Culiat - Pasong Tamo, Pasong Tamo, New Era, and Bagong Silangan. Meanwhile, dzMM quoted Quezon City Mayor Francisco Belmonte Jr as saying that he left the decision to suspend classes in private schools to the discretion of their administrators and officials. The managements of Our Lady of Mercy School near St. Peter's Parish and the FEU Fern Diliman School have both declared suspension of classes earlier in the day. A separate report from radio dzBB said the Diliman Preparatory School has also announced the suspension of its classes. - MARK MERUEÑAS, GMANews.TV
