Tornado damages 23 houses in Bacolod

At least 23 houses were damaged after a tornado triggered by typhoon "Goring" passed through a village in Bacolod City on Monday afternoon. Online news site Visayan Daily Star reported Tuesday that four of the houses were leveled when the tornado hit Puroks Bolinao, Tanguigue, and Lison in Barangay (village) 1, Bacolod City. No one was injured in the two-minute windstorm that came from the sea at 3 p.m. Emergency workers are coordinating with the city government for relief assistance to those affected. Resident Alfredo Enulaga said he was sleeping when the tornado hit and all their belongings were scattered by the time he and his family managed to get out of the house. Debris could be seen hanging from electric cables after the cyclone had passed. Meanwhile, Joemarie Vargas of the city disaster coordinating committee said areas in Banago village and Burgos Streets were flooded at around 8 p.m. Monday. Reports of tornadoes have become more frequent in the Philippines over the past months. In separate incidents last August, at least six reported tornadoes ravaged houses in Malabon City, Bulacan, Zambales, Nueva Ecija and Pampanga. Except for Malabon, all these provinces are located in Central Luzon north of Metro Manila. Last September 5, a tornado hit houses and a school in Isabela, Negros Occidental. - GMANews.TV
