Transcript: DOTC Sec. Larry Mendoza just heard about suspension order

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Saturday suspended the $329-million national broadband network project with China's ZTE Corporation in a rush, even Transportation and Communication Secretary Leandro Mendoza was not directly informed about it. In an interview with QTV's Balitanghali, Mendoza said he just heard about the President's suspension order, that was announced through Trade and Industry Peter Favila. What follows is the transcript of an interview with Mendoza by Balitanghali's news anchor Raffy Tima: Mendoza: Nabanggit sa akin 'yan at alam mo, hindi lang naman, hindi naman suspended lang itong ginagawa natin. Ini-stop natin yung process because of the TRO from the Supreme Court. Kasi nakapaloob naman sa TRO na hindi kami pwedeng gumalaw d'yan. As a matter of fact, 'yung request nga namin for forward obligation authority sa DBM ay hindi na namin tinuloy nung lumabas yung TRO, so stopped yung process. Raffy Tima: Tuloy po ba 'yung proyekto? Mendoza: Well, sa amin kasi suspindido. Ang pananaw kasi namin dito is depende kasi sa SC, whatever the Supreme Court decides then we are going to follow. Nasa korte na kasi ito e. Kanina ko lang narinig din 'yan. I have not talked to any officials of the contract. Raffy Tima: Ano po kaya ang magiging reaction ng mga Chinese sa pagkakasuspinde ng proyekto? Mendoza: Nagpunta sa akin yung mga taga Ministry ng Commerce ng China. Ang sinabi nila sa akin they will follow the rule of law so kung ano 'yung batas natin dito sa Pilipinas ay irerespeto daw nila yan. - GMANews.TV
