Broadband deal scandal
A report by Maki Pulido

Businessman Jose “Joey" De Venecia III, son of House Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr, dropped a bombshell when he exposed alleged irregularities in the $329.4-million deal with China's ZTE Corp. to build the national broadband network (NBN). The businessman linked to the issue prominent personalities such as Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos and First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike" Arroyo. Some have argued that the deal signed with ZTE last April is illegal because the multi-billion-peso project did not undergo a public bidding, while the government has argued that it is not required because it was an executive agreement. Maki Pulido dissects the controversial – and recently suspended – deal to build the NBN.

Lumber
A report by Jiggy Manicad

The Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the country but in recent years, it has become an image of exploitation. The mountain range has been declared a protected area but illegal logging reportedly persists in the area. Some residents explain that the problem has deep causes. Some officials, too, who are supposed to implement laws protecting the Sierra Madre are themselves believed to be abetting illegal logging in the area. Jiggy Manicad asks what authorities should do to address the problem.

Watch these Reporter's Notebook stories on Tuesday late night after Saksi on GMA.
