Assassination threat vs Arroyo bared

An assassination threat against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was bared on Tuesday. National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said there is a "real" assassination attempt against President Arroyo, although he did not name the group or groups behind the purported threat. “Yes, there was and there is an assassination attempt on the President… The threat was real. May tinitingnan na kaming grupo pero hindi pa namin puwedeng sabihin kung sino," Gonzales said. Gonzales made the claim during a House of Representatives hearing on the National Security Council’s proposed budget for next year. The disclosure was made, even as the Defense department said it has thwarted the latest destabilization moves against the government. Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro said those who were behind the destabilization plot against the Arroyo's administration have already been “neutralized." “We are continually monitoring those who are trying to destabilize the government but we have already neutralized them. We’re not saying that’s already gone but we continue to monitor," Teodoro said. For his part, Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon linked the mutinous military group “Magdalo" in the latest destabilization plot against the administration. “Somehow they are connected," Esperon said, without giving details. The Magdalo group was behind the failed July 2003 Oakwood mutiny in Makati City. - GMANews.TV
