Pasig cops ready raps vs lawyer over traffic spat

A lawyer of the Pasig City government now faces a string of charges for shooting dead a corporate executive and a companion following a traffic altercation in Pasig City on Tuesday afternoon. Radio dzXL reported Wednesday that the suspect Manuel Hernandez Jr, Pasig City Hall legal officer, was also found to have committed a "counterflow" – or plied the opposing lane – that led to the spat with the victims. However, relatives of victims Katherine Palmero and Edgardo Canizares feared that any case against Hernandez will not prosper because of his position in City Hall. Canizares is reportedly a vice president of Total Information Management in Makati City. They also cited reports indicating that Hernandez is a nephew of a justice at the Sandiganbayan. For its part, the Pasig City police said it found enough basis to file homicide charges against Hernandez before the city prosecutor's office for the killing of Palmero and Canizares. Initial investigation showed that Hernandez was driving his Toyota Corolla against the flow of traffic when he figured in an accident with the victims' Nissan Cefiro sedan at the corner of Shaw Boulevard and Endriga Streets. An altercation ensued, and Canizares allegedly kicked Hernandez's Corolla, prompting Hernandez to draw his 9-mm pistol and shoot Canizares six times, and Palmero two times. - GMANews.TV
