Parents sure of Pacquiao win, but mom wants it to be his last bout

Rosalio and Dionisia Pacquiao, parents of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, is confident that his son would beat Marco Antonio Barrera in their rematch on Sunday. But Mrs. Pacquiao would rather have the WBO super featherweight international champ make this bout his last. In an interview aired Friday on GMA's Saksi, Mrs. Pacquiao recalled a talk she had with the cham: "Marami ng biyaya binigay sa'yo. Puwede bang tumigil ka nang mag-boxing? Sabi niya: 'Bata pa ko, Ma. Wala pa nga ako edad na trenta'." Rosalio Pacquiao agrees with his son. But he's worried that Barrera is bent on taking revenge on the Pacman, who humiliated the Mexican slugger back in November 2003, with a TKO back in the 11th round of the 12 rounder. Speaking in Cebuano, Mr. Pacquiao said: "I'm sure he would win his fight this Sunday. I'm his father and I know how it feels." In fact, Pacquiao's father is so sure of his winning that he has been preparing for a small feast to be shared with relatives right after the 12-round bout, which will unfold 9 a.m. on Sunday (Philippine time) on Sunday at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mrs. Pacquiao will watch the bout in the Pacman's newly-built P35-million in General Santos City, adopted hometown of the Bukidnon-born boxing idol. As usual, his kababayan are eager to watch the fight – for free – at a big screen being set up at GenSan's Lagao Gym, an air-conditioned building that can seat up to 5,000 spectators. In an interview with 24 Oras to Ernie Quisay, chief of staff of GenSan Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr., said in Filipino: "It's become a custom of the city and its residents. They've come to expect: 'Here's where we can watch one of our childhood friends." And as usual, Acharon is among those leading a welcome-back parade for Pacquiao. - GMANews.TV
