Makati closes roads, enforces traffic rerouting for Nov. 1


The Makati City government said it will close several city roads and enforce a traffic rerouting scheme Thursday, to ease traffic in the city as people flock to cemeteries in observance of the All Saints’ Day. In a statement, Hermenegildo San Miguel, Makati Department of Public Safety (DPS) head, on Wednesday said certain city roads will be closed to vehicles to ease traffic in areas around cemeteries. This, as he noted that traffic will unusually be heavy on Thursday since the number-coding scheme is lifted. The following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic: • Vito Cruz Extension - from Zapote Street to South Avenue; • Kalayaan Avenue - from Zapote to N. Garcia (formerly Reposo) Street; • South Avenue - from JP Rizal to Metropolitan Avenue; • N. Garcia and Pililia Street - from JP Rizal to Kalayaan Avenue; • Legaspi Street - from JP Rizal to D. Oliman Street; • the streets of JB Roxas, Sacramento and Calasanz – from JP Rizal to Kalayaan Avenue; • Kakarong Street – from JP Rizal to Metropolitan Avenue; • Montojo and Yague Streets – from Zapote to South Avenue; and • Panama and Suez Streets – from Zapote to Kakarong Street. For his part, Sr. Insp. Gilberto Loteria, Makati Traffic Enforcement Unit chief, said a traffic rerouting scheme will be implemented effective 5 a.m. Thursday to ease the flow of traffic at the vicinity of the Manila South cemetery, Makati Public cemetery and Makati Catholic cemetery. Loteria said the following streets that will be open to one-way traffic: • N. Garcia Street northbound, from Jupiter/Metropolitan Avenue to Kalayaan Avenue; • Metropolitan Avenue eastbound, from Ayala Extension to N. Garcia Street ; and • Hipodromo Street westbound, from Trabajo Street to AP Reyes Avenue . Loteria also noted that both lanes of J.P Rizal Avenue will be open to vehicular traffic from Makati Avenue to Pasong Tirad street. The official also said one side parking will be allowed along the following: • Kalayaan Avenue, from N. Garcia to Salamanca streets; • N. Garcia street, from Kalayaan to Metropolitan Avenue; • Metropolitan Avenue from South Avenue to N. Garcia street; • Bagtican street, from Kamagong to Guijo street and the inner streets of Barangays Valenzuela, Sta. Cruz and Olympia. In relation to these road closures and traffic rerouting, authorities advised motorists to plan their trips accordingly.- GMANews.TV
