Aide of Cebu town mayor killed in ambush

A bodyguard of a town mayor in Cebu province was shot dead while his colleague was wounded in an ambush staged by motorcycle-riding men Thursday night. Radio dzRH reported Friday that the men shot dead former soldier Orlando Ogario and wounded former policeman Quito Vegido, both bodyguards of Ronda Mayor Esteban Sia. Initial investigation showed the victims were on their way to buy cell-phone load and stopped near the public market when the assailants aboard a motorcycle approached them. One of the men aboard the motorcycle then fired at them. Police recovered seven empty shells from a cal-.45 pistol at the crime scene. It was not immediately clear if the victims managed to fire back. Ronda is a fifth-class town with a population of 16,808 people in 3,544 households. - GMANews.TV
