‘Kabayan’ makes landfall in Isabela, crosses north Luzon


Tropical storm "Kabayan" (Peipah) made landfall near Palanan town in Isabela province and has started crossing northern Luzon as of Sunday night, state weather forecasters said. In its 11 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said "Kabayan" was at Palanan, Isabela or at 170 kilometers east of Baguio City as of 10 p.m. "Kabayan" packed maximum sustained winds of 115 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 145 kph, and was moving west at 13 kph. By Monday evening, it is expected to be 120 km west of Baguio City. By Tuesday evening, it is forecast to be 350 km west of Dagupan City. By Wednesday evening it is forecast to be 550 km west of Dagupan City or over the South China Sea. Under storm signal 3 are Isabela, Quirino, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya and Northern Aurora. Under storm signal 2 are Cagayan, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Benguet, Abra, Ilocos Sur, Nueva Ecija, La Union, Pangasinan, and the rest of Aurora. Placed under storm signal 1 are the Babuyan group of Islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Northern Quezon, and Polillo Island. "Residents in coastal areas under public storm warning signals are alerted against big waves generated by this tropical storm. Likewise, those living in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary measures against possible flashfloods and landslides," Pagasa warned. Meanwhile, Pagasa said the Batanes Islands will continue to experience strong winds with rough to very rough seas due to the surge of the northeast monsoon. - GMANews.TV
