Man dies after leaping off MRT North Ave station

A still unidentified man was killed Wednesday after reportedly leaping off the North Avenue station of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) in Quezon City. Citing initial reports, radio dzMM said shortly before 9 a.m., the man purchased a single-journey train ticket. But instead of proceeding to board one of the coaches, the man jumped to his death from the three-storey station. The radio report described the mustached man as fair-skinned and medium built, wearing a brown sando shirt and black pants. The report said the victim, estimated to be between 20 to 25 years old, was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center but succumbed to injuries. Hospital security officer Rosiel Serrancullo told GMANews.TV that the man, tagged as "Mr. X," died upon arrival at the said medical facility after his lower jaw was crushed upon impact. He also said no identification cards or documents were found in the victim's possession. Hospital officials are still examining the body of the victim to ascertain whether the incident was a suicide attempt or an accident. Serrancullo said if nobody claims the body within the next six hours, the hospital will have to transfer the victim to an accredited funeral home in Litex, Fairview for "safekeeping." Railway officials were quoted in the radio report as saying that the huge number of jostling commuters at the time allowed for the man to leap off unnoticed. A police investigation is underway, led by Police Officer (PO) 3 Julius Rupillo of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit in Camp Karingal, Quezon City. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV
