Kitchie Nadal: From rock to drama

From Pop Rock Princess to Drama Queen, Kitchie Nadal has gone showbiz—on her latest album, at least. For those clamoring for more of her songs, her voice and her talent, read on. Pop Rock Princess Kitchie Nadal has recently come out with a new compilation album under GMA Records entitled Drama Queen TV. And no, it's not because she is a drama diva. "It's a compilation of all the songs I wrote for GMA," Kitchie explains. "There are six songs. It has been released but there is no album, and people were asking for it. So sige, compile na lang natin." Is it difficult writing for a television series rather than for her own album? "Mas madali na gumawa ng soundtrack kasi may story na agad, eh. May boundary ka na," she answers with a thoughtful nod. "That was my dream eh, ever since I was a kid. More than a performer, I always wanted to be a songwriter." It seems only yesterday when she left Mojofly and ventured out on her own. But here she is, eight years later, fresh out of college, producing her own albums and even writing songs for hit TV shows! What inspires her to create such catchy and beautiful melodies? Kitchie says, "Inspiration? Iba-iba. Most of the time, for Drama Queen TV, they gave me the script. From there I tried to work." It must be difficult not to play favorites among all her babies—that is, her songs. But she let slip that the first one she ever did for the show, Mahika, is her favorite and the most difficult to create: "You know at that time, timing kasi, nasa school ako noon. Mayroon akong Philippine Psychology na subject. Nandoon iyong mga parang mahika that we're a very superstitious country. Naka-help siya." The inevitable question was then asked: Is she crossing over to a life of acting and showbiz? She reveals that there have been offers for TV series and even a movie. "Gusto ko nga gumawa ng indie film eh pero wala pa talaga kasi ako nakikita na script. If I'm gonna do an indie film, I really have to put my heart into it. Ang kailangan, I really like the story. Worth my time and effort," she replies. But Kitchie is, first and foremost, a true-blue musician and songwriter: "Pretty much I know what I like naman, eh. Unang una gusto ko talaga music," she simply states—no frills, no drama. - iGMA.tv
